Supported builders
Strongest fit for Cursor, Claude Code, and Windsurf, where Convex publishes AI rules. v0 and Replit can hold the same TypeScript. Lovable and Bolt can call it if you are allowed to add the client SDK rather than only a hosted database URL.
What it is
Convex's homepage calls it the backend building blocks for agents. You write queries and mutations in TypeScript next to the app. The client updates when the underlying data changes, so a generated UI does not have to hand-roll subscriptions.
Their AI docs stress that queries are code, functions are transactional, and they publish rules for Cursor and Windsurf. Auth is something you configure. It is not automatically “done” because the demo loaded.
Best for: A TypeScript app that wants realtime updates and server functions without operating Postgres yourself.
Watch-outs
- It is a different model from SQL. Export and lock-in questions are worth reading before the data is large.

Our take
Opinion from ShipSafeStack. Not a score, not a certification, and not a sponsorship.
A coherent choice when you want the database and the server functions in one TypeScript codebase an agent can edit. You still have to decide which user can run which mutation. Generated mutations that trust the client argument are the bug to look for.
