Supported builders
The client from any of these builders can talk to it. You still have to keep secrets on a server and turn on access rules. Nothing here is installed inside the builder automatically.
What it is
Firebase is Google's platform of backend services for apps: Authentication, Cloud Firestore or Realtime Database, Storage, Cloud Functions, and hosting among them. The current homepage describes it as infrastructure for building and running apps, including with AI agents, backed by Google Cloud.
Security rules on Firestore and Storage play the same role RLS plays on Supabase. Generated clients often ship the Firebase config in the frontend, which is expected, and then forget the rules, which is not.
Best for: A web or mobile app that wants Google-managed auth and a document database, with someone willing to write security rules.
Watch-outs
- Client configuration is public. Rules are the control. A missing rule is a public database.
- Pricing is usage-based and easy to misread. See site.
Our take
Opinion from ShipSafeStack. Not a score, not a certification, and not a sponsorship.
Choose it when you already live in Google Cloud or you want Firestore's document model. Do not choose it because a builder inserted the SDK and the demo loaded. Open the rules tab and try a second user before you call it done.
